Updates on Grace-Related Events

• Dr. Dunbar - The ER doc who first saw her in the emergency room. He ordered the X-Ray of her knee and the CAT scan of her head.
• Dr. Cruz - He also saw her in the ER, and was the doctor who admitted her to the hospital. His specialty is geriatrics.
• Dr. Larry Field - Orthopedics, I think. He was consulting on her fracture, and determined surgery would be neccessary to fix it. He told us that the fracture was close to the knee and fortunately did not involve any part of the replaced hip joint, which was done last November.
• Dr. Westbrook - Supervisory doctor for the ICU. He explained a lot about what was going on, including the fact that they had Grace in the ICU because of the Plavix in her system and the resultant facial bruising - they wanted to be sure the facial injuries didn't interfere with her breathing.
• Dr. Cannon - This is one of two doctors I didn't get to meet. I didn't see his name tag so am unsure of the spelling. I think he was an ENT (or, as they call themselves, an otonasopharyngologist) or perhaps a pulmonologist, brought in to make sure her nose wasn't broken and that she was breathing okay.
• Dr. Torrey - This is the other doctor I didn't get to meet, and am not sure that he saw Grace, although I seem to remember Grace said he did. He's her general practictioner.
• Dr. Hobgood - He's the one who (I think) did the actual surgery to fix Grace's leg. We saw him before the surgery, but not after.
• Dr. Tom Giel - I think he's an alternating ICU supervisory doctor. He talked to us after the s

  urgery, and told us they had to put in a rather large plate to hold together all the pieces of the fracture, and that the plate overlapped the artificial hip somewhat, because the artificial hip joint extended pretty far down the thigh, perhaps 8"? (That's the approximate amount he gestured with his hands.)

• Dr. White - Just heard about him on Wednesday - I think he's the doctor authorizing her transfer from River Oaks to Select Specialty Hospital.

There have also been a number of nurses, particularly ICU nurses, and therapists who have come to see Grace.

So far, all the people we have met have been thoroughly professional and caring people.

As for the people at the Select Specialty Hospital - We've only met Dr. White, and there are four named nurse types (Nurse, Supervisory nurse, charge nurse, and CNA) that change twice a day, so I won't put them here.
